Letters to and from William Laurence Krieg and related papers and photos of the period when he was stationed in Milan, Italy. This was his first official U. S. Foreign Service post, although he had served the equivalent of an internship in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1938-9

The majority of the correspondence was with his father and step-mother. Another large group of letters from this period were with his love-interest at the time, Elspeth Smith. Those letters have not yet been digitized.
